A 52-year-old Polish windsurfer was rescued Sunday near Perdiguera Island by a team formed by the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service (SEIS), Local Police, Civil Protection and Maritime Rescue, unable to return to the coast due to weather conditions.
At around 6:00 pm the emergency coordination center warned that he had received a call requesting help to rescue a windsurfer who was about a mile from the coast and had trouble reaching it.
Apparently the woman had come out dressed simply in a swimsuit on a windsurf board from the beach of Punta Brava and when she decided to return it was found that the change in weather prevented it.
Cartagena firefighters mobilized their Water Equipment Van (FEA) with the light vessel "LS Cartago 2", and a rescue team, which is later joined by another team with a light vehicle and the Maritime Rescue Society (SASEMAR) with base in Cartagena mobilizes a boat of rescue of civil protection of San Javier, the boat "Albufera".
The search work begins in the area between Punta Brava and the Isla de la Perdiguera, where initially everything indicated that the windsurfer could be on the basis of the data available.
However, before the difficulties to find the woman is also mobilized to a local police force to conduct the search for the coast, Civil Protection of Cartagena is mediated with SASEMAR, Civil Guard and a Helicopter rescue "Helimer 206" based in Valencia belonging to the Maritime Rescue Society.
Finally, after making two raids on the south coast, the LS Cartago 2 Bomberos Cartagena boat finds the woman near the shore of the perdiguera island.
After transferring her to Punta Brava, where the health personnel wait for her, and she was transferred by a civil protection ambulance to Los Arcos del Mar Menor University General Hospital for hypothermia due to having remained several hours in the water.
