The International Association of Cities and Entities of the Enlightenment AICEI, held in Cartagena its XII international meeting, during which its members and citizens who wanted it, could learn architectural, political and artistic aspects of the Cartagena of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
After the inauguration in the throne room of the Captaincy building, during the morning of Friday, October 27, two conferences took place at the ARQUA Underwater Archeology Museum.
The first was in charge of Roberto Fernández Díaz, Professor of Modern History at the University of Lleida, who dealt with the figure of Carlos III as an example of an enlightened king who professionalized his position and worked for the modernization of Spain.
The second speaker of the morning was Cristina Roda Alcantud, professor of contemporary history at the University of Murcia, who explained the importance of the construction of the Arsenal of Cartagena as a commitment to the use of a unique technical means for the time, among other buildings that They changed the city and they are still used today.

In the afternoon the members of AICEI went to the Military Historical Museum of the Artillery Park, where Jose Antonio de las Heras explained in detail their rooms and the recently inaugurated model of Cartagena of the eighteenth century.
Then the library hosted six presentations by experts in different subjects.
The chronicler of Cartagena, Francisco José Franco, moderated the first round table in which Isabel González, Tourism Technician of Nuevo Baztán, explained the case of the evolution of this city as a pre-industrial city in the 18th century, Doroteo López, president of the Foro Ferrol de la Ilustración, spoke about the importance of heritage for the tourist and cultural development of cities in the 21st century, and Luisa Lopes, from the Jardim Botánico de Coimbra, explained the case of this campus for university use born in 1722.
The second part of the papers was presented and moderated by José Antonio de las Heras, in which the professor of art history at the University of Murcia, Germán Ramallo, spoke about the evolution of Salzillo's sculpture;
the governor of AFORCA, Juan Lorenzo Gómez-Vizcaíno, explained in detail the importance of fortifications in Cartagena Ilustrada and its advances in architecture;
and Olga Figueredo, management technician of the town hall of the Real Sitio de San Ildefonso, spoke of the reformism and transformation of the city in enlightened times.

Finally on Saturday there was a visit to the museum and site of the Roman Theater of Cartagena for the members of AICEI, after which they left to the bay of Cartagena on the Tourist Boat in the direction of Fort Christmas accompanied by the chronicler Luís Miguel Pérez Adán.
Those participants who had visited the city before, expressed how delighted they had been with the change of the city and the recovery of the heritage that had been made in recent years.
