Students and staff of the university centers of Cartagena will have a 'flat rate' in their bus trips, which can be used throughout the academic year on all urban or interurban lines whose origin and destination is the municipality of the city port and connect with universities.
The Minister of Presidency and Development, Pedro Rivera, today presented the 'University Unibone' in Cartagena, and explained that the Community finances 133,000 euros this initiative which will benefit the university community of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the University of Murcia, the San Antonio Catholic University and the Associated Center of the National University of Distance Education in the city.
"In addition to promoting the use of public transport, we also want to encourage better sustainable mobility in the metropolitan area of ​​Cartagena, and thus align it with policies to reduce the presence of private vehicles in cities, and fight against climate change," he explained. Pedro Rivera.
The regional leader stressed the importance of the "numerous" university community in Cartagena, which "will be favored by the significant discount that is the 'Unibone'."

Specifically, a student who makes an average of four trips a day to the centers attached to these universities would pay about 66 euros per month with the ordinary bus bonus, while the user of the 'Unibone' will pay 20 euros per month.
That is, you will benefit from a monthly savings of 74 percent and the price of the trip will be about 32 cents.
Increase in travelers
In 2016, university students from Cartagena and users of Unibono made a total of 131,070 bus trips to study centers.
This figure represents an increase of 6.1 percent over the previous year, when there were 123,483 trips on buses that connect the city with the different campuses.
The number of trips of the 'Unibone' of Cartagena rose for the second consecutive year.
The counselor specified that from January to September of this year there is a cumulative number of travelers of 'Unibone' of 97,165, which is an increase of 11.68 percent over the accumulated of 2016 in the same period, which was 87,006 travelers .
The most used lines are urban number 5, which links the city with the campus of the Catholic University, with 24,018 travelers so far this year, and the urban number 7, which reaches the campus located in the Alfonso XII promenade, with 21,962 travelers.
The biggest increases with respect to 2016 are found in the aforementioned line 5, with a rise of 46.56 percent, and line number 4, which reaches the shopping center and the industrial estate (45.57 percent).
