The area of Quality of Life, directed by Francisco Calderón, works on the establishment of collaboration agreements with non-profit associations registered in the municipal registry whose corporate purpose is animal protection.
The purpose of these agreements will be the subsidy to the entities in a double aspect: on the one hand, recognizing their work when collecting animals from the Center of Reception for Domestic Animals (CATAD), and on the other to those that promote adoption.
This measure was presented yesterday by Francisco Calderón, who accompanied by the head of Health, María Encarnación Larrosa, and the head of Laboratory, Nuria Vergara, held an information meeting with representatives of the entities registered in the municipal registry: Second Opportunity, PAES, PLANET, Geocat Cartagena and Cuatro Gatos.
The meeting took place in the administrative building of San Miguel.
OBJECTIVE OF THE CONVENTIONS
In this way, we work on the materialization of agreements that will come to light before the end of the year and which, through direct concession, will ensure, in one of its lines, to subsidize associations that have taken care of CATAD animals .
The total amount allocated to the agreements will amount to approximately 25,000 euros.
This aid will be realized in the return of the rate that they had to face for the withdrawal of the animal.
In addition, the agreement will contemplate establishing an increase in the allowance for those animals that require a special difficulty in adoption (potentially dangerous specimens that are eight or more years old or those suffering from a previously diagnosed condition in CATAD).
The articles of agreement will include a second line of action to encourage associations working on the adoption of pets.
In this case, the aid will cover a large part of the obligations of vaccinated, sterilized and dewormed, protocol prior to any legalized adoption.
In all cases they must be identified animals and registered in the municipal pet census.
From the City Hall, we want to thank the protective associations for the work they do and as far as they go, as Calderón explained.
"We are comforted because not only is CATAD, but also the protectors are responsible for picking animals and care for them so they are not on the street," said the mayor of Quality of Life.
The agreements will mark an upper limit to subsidize animals and association in order to benefit the largest number of possible entities.
QUALITY OF LIFE, ANIMAL WELFARE
With this measure, from Quality of Life a double objective is strengthened, since it is intended to advance towards zero abandonment, getting closer in order to achieve zero sacrifice.
It deepens, therefore, in deepening in the origin of these problematic, impelling the identification of the animals, for which will be affected in campaigns of awareness directed to the proprietors.
"This comes to express the concern that the municipal government has for the abandonment of animals, which as we know has to be an educational and social work, a pet is not a toy, a dog or a cat is not a toy," has Calderón pointed out.
MEASURES ALREADY IN EXECUTION
The agreements referred to constitute a new sample of the will maintained by Francisco Calderón of institutionalizing the channels that guarantee the animal welfare.
This is proven through numerous information campaigns and actions, such as the current works of adaptation of the cheniles that is being carried out in CATAD.
Also by means of the construction of the first canine park of the municipality of Cartagena, that will be located in the Park of the Rose.
The works of the CATAD are being carried out with promptness and diligence, has asserted the mayor of Quality of Life, but they are not yet finished.
These will increase capacity by 30%.
"Not only will the capacity increase, but also increase the area for animals so that in case of rain or cold are in a closed cabin, along with an automatic food system through hoppers that will carry food to animals. Cleaning is also going to be done in a more appropriate way, "Calderón said," so that animal welfare prevails. "
Finally, in recent times it was known that in the modification of the fiscal ordinances of 2018, promoted by the mayor of Hacienda, Isabel García, includes the abolition of adoption fees, an issue that will apply to animal protectors.
