The regional government works on the decree that will guarantee early attention as a universal, public and free right, which will benefit more than 3,700 children up to 6 years and their families
President Fernando López Miras visited today the Center for Early Childhood Development and Early Care 'Virgen de la Caridad' in Cartagena, municipality to which the regional government allocates more than 8.3 million euros to finance 752 places to care for people with disabilities .
During his visit to the facilities of this center, which manages the Association for the Disability of Persons with Disabilities (Astus), the president recalled that the regional government collaborates with Astus funding the care of 402 people, with an investment of more than 3.1 millions.
In addition, he added, "next year will be financed 15 more places in 'La Resi', the new residence of this association.
In total, in the Region of Murcia there are almost 4,000 places in care centers for people with disabilities and people with mental illness.
As of the legislature, more than 400 residential care centers have been created, a day center and autonomy promotion.
Specifically, the IMAS funds 204 places for the care of people with disabilities in the day center of Astus;
15 places of residential care in the residence 'El Cobijo';
3 places of sheltered housing and 10 of rotating housing;
and also funds the services of the Center for Early Childhood Development and Care, which serves 170 children.
The President of the Community reiterated the commitment of the regional government with early attention and referred to the decree in which the Executive works to ensure that it is "a universal, public and free right from which more than 3,700 children up to 6 years and their families ", since they will not have to pay for this service.
50 years improving the quality of life
Astus is an association whose objective is to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disability and cerebral palsy, and also of their families, through social integration, through comprehensive care that covers prevention, early care, guardianship , housing, education, occupation, leisure and culture, maximizing their capacities in their centers and services.
Currently, this association supports more than 600 people from birth to old age.
It has a network of centers that continues to grow thanks to the dedication of the families themselves and their around 130 workers, in addition to the contributions of their volunteers.
In his visit to the Center for Early Childhood Development and Early Care 'Virgen de la Caridad', the president had words of gratitude and recognition for Astus, for those five decades "working so that all Murcia have the same opportunities and no one is left behind; 50 years of dedication to others who were recognized last June 9, Region Day, with the Diploma of Distinguished Services of the Community.
