The Department of Archaeological Heritage of the City of Cartagena has presented the projects have run and start in the last months of this year 2017, 'Year of the Enlightenment'.
To explain the details of the same have appeared before the media the Councilor of Archaeological Heritage, Ricardo Segado, and the director general of Archaeological Heritage M.ª Carmen Berrocal.
Some actions that will have a global budget around the 90,000 euros that will be executed in the remainder of the year.
ACTIONS IN WALLS AND HISTORICAL HELMET ENVIRONMENT
As for the Wall of Carlos III, there will be interventions in 2 places.
It will restore the parapet that was broken with the fall of the branch of the ficus in front of the Hospital of Marina and will be cleaned of vegetation and illuminate the bulwark number 24, where is the Club Santiago, with special attention to the part that gives to the street Capitanes Ripoll, "which at present is completely masked by the garden areas", explained the councilman.
Regarding other buildings of the eighteenth century, the project for the restoration of the perimeter wall of the Castle of the Moors, which has been owned by the municipal government since 1929 but which had not been carried out until today, is being drafted.
The project has been commissioned for the most delicate areas, especially the closing wall.
In the area of ​​Monte Sacro the excavation of the Wall of 1721 in front of the Artillery Park is continued.
A project that began in early 2016, has been collected all relevant documentation and verified that the wall continued, so it will proceed to its exhumation in the ascent to the Wall of Earth.
In the same place, the interior of the refuge of the civil war will be cleaned and refurbished, for which exhibition contents are already being prepared and a documentary about the "bombing of the four hours" during the Civil War .
Next year is planned the exterior conditioning.
On the other hand, also in that same area, the Water Deposit of the nineteenth century is going to be cleaned, especially the enormous graffiti that some vandals did some time ago.
Another project to be carried out is the name change of the interpretation center of the Byzantine Wall, a name that was given when the site was discovered in the 80's, but is not a wall or Byzantine.
For this reason the site will be named in relation to some of the findings that have been made in its basement, the name will be announced in brief dates.
In addition in that same center of interpretation it is going to realize a deep cleaning of the mosaics, it is going to improve the illumination, to condition the exhibition and it is going to fix the facade.
AMPHITHEATER
Regarding the Amphitheater next week will be the contracting of the Master Plan, and in the next month and a half will be awarded a new phase of recovery of this monument, a project that began in 2015. The Community has approved this week its subsidy in this regard, amounting to 100,000 euros, "after requesting it on several occasions during this year," the councilor pointed out.
"We already have everything prepared for the immediate hiring, being our firm intention that it is finalized before the end of the year" has informed.
Segado has taken advantage to announce that next weekend the Troops of Hannibal, are going to realize a work of voluntary patrimonial.
On Saturday they will collaborate in the cleaning of the Amphitheater and on Sunday, a photo session will be held in this same stage, original of the first century.
POSTERS
As for the cartelería works in different sites of the city, that already have been carried out in the excavations of the square of the Lake and in the street Morería Baja with great welcome among the visitors, is going to be extended with explanatory bilingual posters in English and Spanish in the Cathedral of Santa María la Mayor, in the Amphitheater, in Torreciega, at the crossing of the Four Saints and on the Calzada de Salvius.
In this last deposit, the Calzada de Salvius, are going to carry out maintenance work.
They are going to re-raise the side walls, very deteriorated due to the use of an interior mortar in its first construction, and are going to reintegrar the great slabs of some sections.
THE CITY OF VICTORIA
As for the Cueva Victoria, the Director Plan will be contracted to collect the short, medium and long-term actions for the valorization of this deposit.
A project that seeks to determine the actions to be carried out inside the cave, such as outdoor performances, such as the "construction of a visitor center", explained the Director of Patrimonio, and "design the lines magistral of putting in value tourist and patrimonial of the Cave Victoria ".
To this end, it will contact solvency companies at national and international level with experience in conditioning and work in caves, with which the City will contact in the coming weeks, since "improvisation in Heritage is disastrous", has ruled Berrocal.
Thus, the director has advanced that has contacted other municipalities, which have already opened caves for visitors, to analyze possible financing systems for the execution of the project, which would exceed half a million euros.
In the next few days, the Councilor for Heritage will report on the financing system to be carried out, after the economic and legal analysis of the alternatives, and that in any case would consist of a mixed public-private system.
This deposit, of great importance at European level for the analysis of the geological, paleontological and paleoanthropological history due to its singularity, received during the Lower Pleistocene a den of hyenas.
A fact that has allowed to find remains of abundant fauna that has served to demonstrate the existence of a way of access to Europe through the Strait of Gibraltar, since there are remains of animals of African origin.
Further research is under way on climate change by a German university, whose findings are expected to be released next year
On the other hand two specific works are going to be realized: a key of subjection of the ceiling of the cave, and the adaptation of a mining gallery.
In addition an exhibition of the deposit for the House of the Town of the Plain of the Beal has been designed.
CANTERAS AND THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
In the town of Canteras there will be several interventions in the Roman Quarries.
It is going to fence the deposit by the zone that is property of the City council, to preclude the rolled access and to avoid the discharge of debris.
Also the last debris will be removed.
In addition, dissemination campaigns are planned in schools and neighborhood associations of this site.
In the Archaeological Museum an important investment will be made in the warehouses in which the ceramic of the excavations is deposited.
It will proceed to the installation of shelves to make a model of storage by means of pallets and mechanical means to improve of a definitive way the chaotic state in which it is.
It will also complete the lighting of the necropolis that began last year.
