The Council of Government has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, to provide with 100,000 euros to the City of Cartagena for the master plan of the Roman amphitheater and contribute to the implementation of the first phase of consolidation of the plaza Bulls.
The purpose of the project presented by the City Council of Cartagena is the first phase of consolidation of the bullring, in which are executed load bearing structures without changing the existing facade of the same.
The works of consolidation of the bullring intervene on elements of this, foundation, interior walls and façade, but do not affect structures of the Roman amphitheater, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) and are compatible with its conservation.
Likewise, the project establishes that the protected façade of the bullring - cataloged with Grade 3 Environmental Protection - is preserved as it requires this degree of protection, without altering its exterior appearance.
The drafting of a master plan that subsidizes the Autonomous Community is pending, in which the possible future stages of intervention and their scope must be studied and defined.
The consolidation system of the first phase of bullring does not condition the future master plan, since it focuses on the consolidation of the outer ring and maintains the facade of the building without damaging the archaeological remains.
The master plan will cover the coexistence of the two buildings, Roman amphitheater and bullring, and will establish the intervention criteria, recommended uses and urban planning of the environment, among other aspects.
All this work will be the basis for the drafting of an integral recovery project for both buildings and their urban environment.
