This morning, the acting mayor, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the Councilor for Sustainable Development and Transparency, María José Soler, participated in the meeting of the commission to follow up the agreement signed between the City of Cartagena and the Regional Entity of Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment (ESAMUR), which has been represented, among other members, by its director, Jesús Artero.
The event was held in the administrative building of San Miguel.
During the session it was agreed the need to hold a next appointment in which to determine the works that, in technical judgment, are considered more priority to perform for the optimization of the service.
It should be recalled that, since 2015, the contribution of the entity is limited to the strict costs of maintenance.
Soler has taken the opportunity to demand a greater representation of the City Council within the commission, since, to date, the local administration has a single member in this working group, an issue that has been accepted by ESAMUR.
In this way, the limited capacity of the Consistory in the assumption of initiatives would be alleviated, resulting in a greater margin of maneuver of the local institution.
In another order, both administrations have agreed on the need to update or replace the current agreement, improving the municipal position.
The idea of ​​transferring the operation and maintenance of municipal sewage treatment plants to ESAMUR has also been advanced, an issue that was very close to the discussions held between the former general director of Infrastructures, Manuel Nicolás, and the Directorate General for Water CARM.
