The Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, urged the Autonomous Community this Friday, October 13, to make effective the declaration of Good Cultural Interest with monument category for the House of the Child.
And it is that, said Segado, in December 2016 the municipal plenary passed a motion urging the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the Autonomous Community has granted this category to the building but after six months without a reply, in July of this year, the file was opened for administrative silence of the said organism.
"In accordance with article 13 of the Law of Heritage of the Autonomous Community, the BIC file must be initiated," said Ricardo Segado, who requested "that the law be complied with."
In this way, the mayor recalled that from the municipal government "are doing their homework so that the environment of the Casa del Niño is in a position," in relation to the works being carried out in the street Licenciado Cascales.
Thus, in the surroundings of the building is widening the access road to the school, work has begun on renovating the pavement and replacing the luminaire with LED lighting.
In addition, new banks will be installed.
At the same time, it has asked CARM to comply with the law since "they promised 300,000 euros and we want it to be committed to the Casa del Niño", which would mean the elimination of barracks "where children are confined" and that "the structure of the building is improved so much that it deserves its protection and conservation, such as the quality of these classrooms and the education that is being given to children."
For Segado, this is a "deserved initiation, and also pays homage to Félix Martí Alpera, who promoted its construction for school purposes, but also to protect abandoned and partially neglected children," which would bring "good news for this old building located in the center of Cartagena, such as suppress the prefabricated barracks or end with the neglect of abandoning its main facade.
As for the Craft Center, Segado has lamented that "we still have no news."
The mayor recalled that from the Autonomous Community "they announced that they would return and, therefore, we are waiting for them to comply with the law and their commitments."
