A Teleco student initiates the Learning-Service methodology aimed at improving the environment with a web platform to manage a school cafeteria
The Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) joins the new Learning-Service (ApS) methodology.
The student of the master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering José Vigueras will be the first to carry out his final project of studies to apply his knowledge to a real need his environment, with the purpose of improving it.
The student is devising a web platform for the management of the dining room of a public school in Cartagena.
This teaching innovation project is the first of those to be implemented by the UPCT throughout this course.
The application of this trend of teaching innovation will encourage students to increase their learning and apply their acquired knowledge in their final projects (degree or master's) focused on solving real problems in their environment, help NGOs, associations and institutions.
Learning-doing, providing a service to the community, applying the knowledge of the subjects to a solidarity action carried out by the students, acquiring values ​​are some of the advantages of ApS.
This initiative involves teachers María Eugenia Sánchez, David Cegarra, Ignacio Segado, Soledad Martínez, Leandro Juan, José Víctor Rodríguez, Joaquín Roca, Pedro Luján and Simón Hernández.
The intention of these teachers is to achieve the involvement of teachers and social groups and to get UPCT students to choose what work they can do to apply their knowledge to the improvement of their environment.
Among the projects that are planned to offer students are a campaign to increase blood donations in the city and another aimed at the use of a natural space respecting the environment.
Teachers have initiated contacts with associations and institutions working in line with the United Nations' sustainable development objectives.
