At the end of September, the Association for the Protection of Cabo Palos PROCABO submitted a request to different regional and municipal administrations to claim the importance of maintaining the revenues that accumulate on the beach of Levante and Amoladeras.
These arribazones are formed by leaves and stems naturally detached from the plants of Posidonia Oceánica, a marine phanerogama endemic to the Mediterranean.
The municipal group of We may ask the government if municipal services are withdrawing parcels of posidonia on beaches, and if it is aware that one of the criteria for obtaining a blue flag is that algae and vegetation remains should not be collected, unless its accumulation and rot are clearly bothersome and unhealthy.
Ecological groups and Asociación Procabo warn that these algae have an important ecological function, and act as a barrier against erosion by reducing the loss of sands on our coasts during storms.
