On the occasion of the Year of the Enlightenment, the Municipal Archaeological Museum 'Enrique Escudero de Castro' focuses on some pieces of the space that are contemporary with this movement, thanks to which the museum culture was developed as well as the studies of the past that contribute so much to the present society and its knowledge of History.
For this reason, this Wednesday, October 11, starting at 7:30 pm will take place in the Museum itself the presentation of the Piece of the Quarter, which consists of this occasion in a 'Real de 8' and several maravedíes of Carlos III .
Carmen Martínez, archaeologist and graduate in History with a specialty in Prehistory, Archeology and Ancient History by the University of Murcia (UMU) will be in charge of presenting these copies.
The entrance to the event, organized by MVSAEDOMVS (Association of Friends of the Municipal Archaeological Museum), will be free until full capacity.
After the presentation, the conference 'Adolfo Herrera and the archeology of Cartagena during the second half of the nineteenth century', will be held by Miguel Martín Camino, archaeologist of the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena.
THEME OF THE CONFERENCE
In the eighteenth century the studies on archeology of Cartagena, as well as in all Spain, reached a remarkable boom under the impulse of the Spanish Crown.
However, in the next century, and by very different factors, this thrust is transformed into a decline that leads to archaeological studies to a dark abyss that only begins to see the light soon after the middle of the nineteenth century.
Precisely, during that stage, the archeology of Cartagena lives several transcendental episodes in which stands out the figure of Adolfo Herrera Chiesanova.
