The company Antaviana Lírica debuts this Wednesday, October 11, as Compañía Lírica Española in Cartagena with the representation of the zarzuela 'El otro duo de la africana' with an updated version and with the characters renewed.
This was announced by the Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, who was accompanied in the presentation of the event by the director of the work, Pepe Ros, and one of the main actors, the tenor Adrian Quiñones.
The representation that will arrive Wednesday at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy, at 20.30 hours, is an expanded adaptation of the original work of celebrated composer from Murcia Manuel Fernández Caballero.
"Cartagena is a land that loves music, theater, traditions and zarzuela," said Martinez, while remembering that although the musical genre reached its peak in the eighteenth century, it has continued to this day thanks to associations like the Lyric Association Friends of the Zarzuela, with which the council of Culture collaborates, and the company Antaviana Lírica.
The director of the work has explained that, although the company is Antaviana Lírica, they become the Spanish Lyric Company.
"This gives us a lot of life, because we've got a brand," explained Ros.
'The other duo of Africana', released in 1893, is a work full of humor that moves away from the topical castiality and costumbrismo of the zarzuela of the late nineteenth century and which has an ironic, almost mocking, look at the world of theater and the Grand Opera.
For the adaptation of this Wednesday, the cast of 26 artists is expanded, so that 32 singers, actors and dancers will bring to the scene this work with music by Fernández Caballero, with arrangements by Manuel Buitrago and adaptation of Pepe Ros.
David Martinez has encouraged all Cartagena and visitors to come to the auditorium of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center this Wednesday to enjoy the work, free of charge thanks to the collaboration between the City of Cartagena and the ICA Escena Plan of the Institute of the Cultural Industries and of the Arts of the Region of Murcia.
For his part, Pepe Ros has assured that for the company it is "an honor" to present this assembly in Cartagena and has shown his gratitude of the city for his support to make this assembly in Cartagena.
In addition, several members of the company have Cartagena roots, such as the soprano Gloria Sánchez, or the young tenor revelation Adrián Quiñones.
One of the novelties of this adaptation is the update that has been made of the characters and costumes.
"It has changed the subject with a very jovial vision," said Ros, who has highlighted the incorporation of young characters in history and that all choirs are composed of singers under 30 years.
On the other hand, the City of Cartagena organizes together with the Escena ICA Plan the performance of another play, 'The dream of reason', Antonio Buero Vallejo, which will arrive on October 20 under the direction of Paco Maciá.
At 20.30 hours, the representation by the Railway Company will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center.
