The Councilor for Public Safety and Public Health, Francisco Aznar, received and congratulated this morning Joaquín López Gómez, local police of Cartagena, for the gold medal and the three silver medals achieved at the XVII World Police and Fire Games were held from August 7 to 16 in Los Angeles
The councilman was proud of the sporting feat achieved by this agent, representing the Local Police of Cartagena and Spain and wished him more success in the future.
Lopez was gold medalist at Cross of 5,000 meters, and silver medal in 3,000 meters obstacles, 5,000 meters smooth and 1,500 meters smooth in the category of majors of 40 years.
The police officer has commented that he did not expect to get as many metals, even though he trained intensely with a coach, especially for the 3,000-meter obstacle test.
"With that preparation we have drawn oil, because we take advantage of it and we already focus on the other tests," he said, pointing out the great level of this competition especially in the countries of Eastern Europe that sends these Games to former professional athletes.
López is now preparing athletic events through his club, Runtritón Cartagena, and intends to compete in the next World Police and Fire Games to be held in Chegdu, China, in 2019.
The World Police and Fire Games emerged as an evolution of an initiative of the California State Police Athletic Federation, which in 1967 organized the first edition of the California Police Games.
The first edition was held in California in 1985 and since then they are celebrated every 2 years.
