The Council of Security of the City of Cartagena, Francisco Aznar, and the General Director of Highways, José Antonio Fernández, visited today Wednesday the restart of the construction works of the round in the highway of La Manga (RM-12) to the entrance of Cabo de Palos.
A project that will provide a second access to this locality, in addition to an area of ​​business and commercial expansion, while also allowing the large influx of traffic to Cabo de Palos and La Manga generated on this road, with almost 21,000 vehicles a day on average, reaching in summer tips of up to 100,000 vehicles, explained Fernandez.
The works, which began before summer with preliminary actions for the diversion of services of supply, sanitation and electricity, have made a break in summer to avoid discomfort in the months of increased traffic, and now are resumed for the purpose of which are completed in late November or early December.
This action is carried out in coordination with the city council, as pointed out by Francisco Aznar, there has been a close collaboration with the Police when it comes to controlling the traffic due to the detours caused by such a work.
The new roundabout has an outside diameter of 45 meters and an interior of 30 meters, and will have three lanes of circulation of 4 meters each.
The investment in this project amounts to 242,000 euros.
Taking advantage of their meeting, the Councilor for Citizen Security and the General Director of Highways have been able to deal with a number of issues, such as resuming the construction of a roundabout at National 332 as it passes through San José Obrero, at the intersection with Viñas del Mar street, which would greatly improve the west access to the city.
