The Autonomous Community will put into service next November the roundabout that is building at the entrance of Cabo de Palos, at kilometer 8 of the RM-12 dual carriageway.

The action, which promotes private initiative, will facilitate the regulation of traffic in the commercial area of ​​'Las Dunas'.

The Director General of Highways, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, visited the works today and underlined the importance of this action in the La Manga highway, which is the one that carries the most traffic within the regional road network, with an intensity of 20,854 vehicles of average daily, that surpasses the 30,000 in summer season and that this summer "has registered up to 100,000 vehicles".

Fernández Lladó noted that these works "are a good example of the benefits of public-private collaboration in public works" and recalled that, under an agreement, its Department assumes the execution of these works while private initiative funds its construction, which amounts to 242,000 euros.

The action consists of constructing a round gazebo, with an external diameter of 45 meters and an internal diameter of 30 meters, which will allow to have two lanes of circulation of four meters of width each and shoulders of a meter the outside and 0, 50 meters inside.

The director informed that the traffic will remain diverted until the works are completed and he recalled that this work had to be suspended while the electricity distributor made the diversion of the high voltage power line and dismantled the metal tower that supported it.
