The architect José Manuel Chacón has presented this Tuesday, October 3, a proposal to turn the battery of Fajardo into a hotel.
Thus it has been transferred to the delegate councilor of Industry and Tourism, Obdulia Gómez;
to the mayor of the Sustainable Development Area, María José Soler;
to the delegate councilor of Property and Heritage, Isabel García;
and the mayor of the government José López.
The architect has presented his project within the round of contacts that the local government is maintaining to use the batteries of coast that would be financed through private investors, by means of concession by the City council, as has emphasized Isabel García.
So, at the moment different proposals are being collected and, as pointed out by the mayor of Hacienda, has recently received another proposal to convert this battery into a youth hostel.
For his part, the architect recalled that, in 2008, he applied for the relevant Permits in Defense that allowed him to access the battery and draw plans from which he has done the design that has presented to the council of Cartagena on Tuesday.
"I do not want the project to sleep in a drawer or throw it away, so I've brought it to the City Hall, in case it can be used for anything," he said.
Thus, the project would consist of a hotel that could house from something more than 30 to 50 rooms.
The building has an "important" patrimonial character, with more than 2,000 square meters and patio.
"We should intervene as soon as possible," Chacon stressed.
The initial investment in the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the hotel facility would be around 3 or 3.5 million euros.
"Cartagena needs hotels and, above all, hotels with charm," said the architect.
At present, the battery is owned by the Ministry of Defense although the procedures for the assignment of the installation by the City of Cartagena have been initiated.
"The Ministry is willing but with conditions," explained Isabel García, who has said that these conditions should be analyzed and then take the agreement in Government Board.
