The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, met today with the acting mayor of Cartagena, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the president of FC Cartagena, Francisco Belmonte, to announce improvements at Cartagena's Cartagonova Stadium.
The stadium turf will start to change for another during the next few days because "Cartagena needs some top facilities, we want to have the best facilities and achieve the goal we all have, to climb to Second A," said the counselor.
The works will finish in November and will cost 150,000 euros.
The Community will contribute a total of 45,000 euros and the Federation of Football will donate the box office that is collected from the Under 21 meeting between the Spanish National Team and the Slovak National Team, about 60,000 euros.
The rest of the works will be subsidized by the City of Cartagena.
The Minister stressed the collaboration and joint work between the two administrations to carry out these actions "in one of the most emblematic buildings of the port city" and thanked the support of the federation.
He added that "this is the best time to carry out the works, since Cartagena is still very much alive in the Copa del Rey and will continue to be because it will defeat Sevilla and, in addition, the stadium will soon host one of the parties of the Spanish National Team Sub 21 ".
For the regional government, support for sport "is a priority, and evidence of this is the increase of 13 percent in the heading for this purpose in the Community Budgets for this year or the tax incentives for people and companies that support the sport, "concluded Martínez-Cachá.
