Environmental issues will lead the star cycle of the new edition of Cartagena Piensa (27/09/2017)

Cartagena Piensa, one of the most innovative programs of the Department of Culture, in collaboration with the UPCT and other associations and groups, has launched its fourth quarterly program, which includes workshops and activities to be held between October and December, with a series of novelties, which the mayor David Martínez gave today, who has been accompanied in the presentation by Cayetano Gutiérrez, professor of Physics and Chemistry and scientific disseminator, as well as member of the Cartagena Piensa promoter group, and the UPCT professor Eva Tomaseti.

A program that comes loaded with proposals for all ages and under very different formats and contents that will spread throughout the municipality, said David Martinez, highlighting as one of the most innovative the cycle on Ecosocial Transition or Collapse, which brings three of the most outstanding Spanish thinkers and essayists around the problem of civilization crisis and climate change, the greatest challenge of our time.

They are the philosopher and essayist Jorge Riechmann, who will be in Cartagena on Tuesday, October 3 with the talk "The collapse is not the end of the world: Tracks for a strategic reflection";

the anthropologist and ecofeminist Yayo Herrero, on November 22, with "Towards an economy and politics that rebuilds the ties with the earth and between the people";

and the scientist and researcher Antonio Turiel, one of the greatest energy experts in our country, who will put on the table "The decline of oil".

The three talks, which will be held at the Josefina Soria Library of the Cultural Center Ramón Alonso Luzzy, at 20.00 hours, revolve around the fundamental problem of our time, the unfeasibility of our current model of life based on exacerbated consumerism, pointed Cayetano Gutiérrez.

In addition to the 'star cycle' of programming, the Councilor for Culture has emphasized the great number of activities aimed at children, starting with the UPCT's informative workshops, recreational science, astronomy, drawing and philosophy, and mention those of musical stimulation for children and babies.

On the other hand, in collaboration with the cafeteria El Soldadito de Plomo, another classic of Cartagena Piensa, will address such transcendental issues as tourism and its future models, suicide as a hidden social problem, or the controversial issue of rent bellies or gestation surrogate, all of them raised as debates with plurality of points of view and open to the discussion of the attendees.

Among other novelties, a new section of collaboration with other entities, associations and groups is opened, under the name "Cartagena Piensa con Otros", which this quarter will reveal the figure of one of the most important transformers of the first third of the XX century , as was the cartagenero Egmon de Bries;

the burden of a comic work on the Spanish deportees to the Nazi camps;

another presentation of an outstanding work - the book "On the margins of nature", a reflection on the persecution of difference during the Franco regime, specifically the male homosexuality, which was awarded the 1st Prize Sagasta de Ensayo, convened by the Caminos Foundation and the Editorial Debate;

will also present the biography that Jose Luis Ferris has made the writer, playwright and essayist María Teresa León;

and there will be a public event with the president of the Council of Culture of the Region, José Molina, who will accompany the mayor of the city.

It is a collaboration with associations and groups as active as the collective Galactyco, adult education group Carmen Conde, or the Association of Historic Memory of Cartagena.

Finally, among other lines of work that are already common in Cartagena Piensa, there are the workshops of the UPCT, which are going to be launched 11 and with which, as highlighted by Eva Tomaseti, seek to arouse the interest of the younger ones for science and technology, and even possible vocations.
