On Wednesday, September 2, work began on improving the Center for the Reception and Treatment of Companion Animals (CATAD) to improve animal welfare, which will include increasing the size of cheniles and a new food distribution system.
For this reason, the councilors of the areas of Quality of Life and Sustainable Development, Francisco Calderón and María José Soler, respectively, visited their facilities on Thursday in order to know the details of the works.
Thus, a significant improvement of the facility, built 20 years ago, is taken care of and will assure to the animals a greater degree of performance and hygiene, taking into account during the writing of the project parameters such as temperature, relative humidity level ventilation, lighting and living space.
With these works, which have a lead time of two months and a bidding budget of 123,104.88 euros, will improve the living conditions of the animals that are in the center, since the habitacles will have a surface of six square meters of which three will be covered and another three will be of patio.
Thus, the animals will have two more square meters and will be protected from possible inclement weather.
This improvement also includes a 30% increase in the capacity of housing of animals, going from the 60 current habitants to 74.
Another improvement included in the project refers to how to provide food to animals.
In this way, automatic dosing will be allowed through a silo with a hose and feeders inside the housings.
A feeder with hopper equipped with dry feed capacity for a week will be enabled.
During the visit, the two councilors have shown their satisfaction with these measures that seek to guarantee the highest degree of animal welfare.
In this sense, Calderón has highlighted the consensus reached with the different political groups in the adoption of measures like this one.
The mayor has recognized that the improvements "were necessary and that is why they are faced".
FIRST CANINE PARK OF THE MUNICIPALITY
Francisco Calderón and the mayor of the area of Sustainable Development and Transparency, María José Soler, have visited the Rosa Park, where they have first hand knowledge of the state of the preliminary work of adaptation of the plot that will host the first canine park of the municipality of Cartagena.
In particular, they have verified that, to date, various works have been carried out such as the movement of earth, the dimensioning of the different ones or the connection with the external lighting.
These preliminary works will be extended over the next few days, although the total project execution time is estimated at about two months.
These works constitute a measure aimed at promoting animal welfare, since it enables the dogs to have a space of games and exercise without the attachment of a leash, in a space safe for them and their owners who will be provided with trees and areas Rest.
One of the characteristics of this park will be the separation of dogs in two zones differentiated according to their size, which will provide greater security to the animals themselves.
Thus, the space will be fenced with a double access door to optimize security and will operate uninterrupted from Monday to Sunday and from 0 to 24 hours.
The contract for the habilitation of this area of canine leisure with games circuit was awarded by the Board of Contracting to Natural Engineering, Water and Environment, SL, for a total amount of 39,516.18 euros.
In addition, a poster will be installed at the entrance to the area that will detail the specific usage rules.
The rules contemplate that only animals that are registered with microchips and comply with the current hygiene and sanitary regulations, the obligation to collect excrement or the need to keep the door closed at all times, among others, may enter.
