This Thursday, September 21, World Alzheimer's Day is celebrated.
On the occasion of this date will be read in the Reception Hall of the Palace Hall at 13:00 hours the manifesto that the Association of Relatives and Friends of Alzheimer's AFAL elaborates to claim the visibility and research of this disease.
Francisco José Calderón, Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, AFAL Manager, Raúl Nieto Galera and Nazarene Mayor Semana Santa 2017, Mª Jesús Bustillo Moreno, will participate in the event.
The Plenary Assembly of Cartagena City Council declared Cartagena City on 7 September as a "Solidary City with Alzheimer's", a progressive disease characterized by degeneration of nerve cells in the brain and a decrease in brain mass, in Spain to 3.5 million people who suffer from it and their family caregivers.
Through this declaration we want to raise awareness, inform and engage citizens and institutions with a problem that suffer more than 800,000 people throughout Spain, which is the leading cause of dementia in developed countries, as well as one of the main causes mortality among adults;
while serving as an example to other municipalities.
