The new quarterly program for the elderly and disabled comes with a score of news (19/09/2017)

Workshops, courses, talks, walking routes, conferences, and exercise are, among many other things, what is foreseen in the Program of Activities for Older Persons and People with Disabilities organized by the City of Cartagena through the Department of Social Services and Mediation Social and will be developed during the next quarter to close 2017.

This Tuesday they presented the 20 novelties with which approximately the agenda for the months of October, November and December the Councilor of Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, the delegate councilor of Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martín del Amor, the coordinator of this council, Damián Pérez, and the president of the Federation of Associations of Elderly People of Cartagena and Comarca, Maria Beteta.

This program has been designed with the intention of reaching all corners of the municipality and includes a wide range of activities varied and adapted to the interests and needs of the elderly with the fundamental objective that these people remain physically, mentally and socially active, contributing to promote healthy aging.

This has led to significant improvements.

The program will start on October 3 with the celebration of the International Day of Older People in which a historic walker route will be dedicated to the Enlightenment and in the afternoon will take place the reading of the manifesto in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and then the act commemorative in homage to the centenary people, that will count on the performance of the Liga Musical Cartagonova.

On October 21, 22 and 23, the IX edition of the 2017 Femadis Resources and Services Fair will be held, in which non-governmental organizations and companies will present their news for older people.

The program includes workshops and courses on new technologies, health, languages, art and culture, visits to the Enrique Escudero de Castro Municipal Archaeological Museum and hiking routes in which more than 200 people participate, including Cala Cortina, La Union, Tallante, Caravaca de la Cruz, urban walks or the Encańizadas of San Pedro del Pinatar.

There will also be activities aimed at the 42 senior clubs, also extending to the day care centers of Los Dolores and El Algar as well as some residences of the municipality.

These will target more than 1,000 people.

During the cultural weeks of Alumbres, Polígono Santa Ana, Virgen de la Caridad, Barrio de la Concepción, Los Barreros, Los Belones, Santa Ana and Pozo Estrecho, cultural visits, championships, theater performances and so on.

As a novelty, one of the highlights is the cycle of lectures on Cartagena in which myths, legends and traditions as well as the coplas and flamingos typical of the city will be discussed.

On the other hand, in order to facilitate the electronic administration will be given computer workshops for the senior managers of the clubs.

Equally worthy of mention is the program of activities for the elderly with disabilities, in which associations such as Afibrocar, Apices, the San Pedro and Afal Shop Asylum Foundation, as well as the celebration of the International Day of Disability and, within the volunteer program, stands out the initiative 'Combinaté' of accompaniment to people with problems of solitude and dependence.

The delegate councilor of Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martín del Amor, highlighted "the good work of the professionals of the Area of ​​Elderly", who has been grateful to have been able to take advantage of the resources that are available to them.

On the other hand, the mayor of Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, expressed his satisfaction "for the effort made by the technicians" and has pointed out that from the municipal government do not want to forget about the elderly people who, as dependents, need the support and the services of the local administrations - the nearest and regional ones.

According to the data provided, this refers to some 5,300 people with a certain degree of dependency.

Likewise, Calderón has claimed that, although it would be the responsibility of the regional government to assume the total cost of Social Services under the Dependency Law, the City Council is assuming this responsibility, for which reason it has requested that, from the Autonomous Community, of 30%.

"We do not stop doing these services," he recalled.

Damián Pérez has defined the program as "broad, very ambitious, very complete" and "at the same time very playful", which "brings a lot of life to the groups of elderly people and above all helps them to be in permanent activity so that their aging become more active and healthier. "

This program is expected to involve some 5,000 people in the block of courses, workshops and hiking trails and another 1,000 in activities designed for senior clubs.

Likewise, the service of assistance at home attends a total of 485 people, the one of teleasistencia to 481, the one of food at home to 148 and the one of 'Respite familiar' to 16.
