Cartagena will host the European Mobility Week from 16 to 22 September.
An initiative for which the Cartagena City Council together with the collective MoviliCT, the Polytechnic University and various companies and collaborating organizations, has prepared a series of activities and initiatives with the aim of promoting the use of public transport and non-polluting vehicles in the city .
The details have been announced by the Coordinator of Sustainable Development of the City Council, Jesús Jiménez, and the representative of the collective MoviliCT, Susana Otón.
The motto of the campaign this year is "Sharing It Comes Further".
The first of the measures that has been announced is the start up of the M17 line, which has already been launched last Christmas and Easter, from the Severo Ochoa deterrent parking lot, opposite the Mandarache Shopping Center, and which will stop near the camp festive and in the Center of Cartagena.
The use of this bus line will be free and will be available from 16 to 23 September between 18:30 and 1:00 hours with departure frequency every 30 minutes.
This initiative seeks to alleviate the influx of cars in the parking lot of the Eroski Shopping Center next to the festive camp.
Moreover, on 21 and 22 September, on the occasion of the European Day without cars and coinciding with the festive days in the municipality, all bus lines will be free of charge.
In the same days, an information point and workshops for children will be set up in the period market next to Camp Festero to present the activities of the European Mobility Week and the measures of the M17 Strategic Mobility Plan.
Also next week, with date yet to be confirmed, will be launched the first municipal point of electric recharging of vehicles in Puertas de Murcia.
A first point that from the consistory is expected to be the first of many and whose location has been chosen by the municipal technicians to be considered "the ideal location" for the area that can serve and the municipal infrastructure of which there is available, Jimenez has indicated.
The tender for this recharging point was published today in the Minor Contracts section of the City Hall's Electronic Headquarters.
Also will be implemented during the week a service of use of bicycles between municipal buildings for the personnel of the City council like pilot experience, with the aim to put it in march, if the circumstances give optimum, so that all the citizens can use it.
Also this month will be launched Zone 30 restricted access to the historic center at a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour.
On the other hand, the "Punic-Roman Archaeological March" organized by MoviliCT will be held on Friday 22 September, which will depart at 11:00 am from the Municipal Archaeological Museum and will visit different points of the archaeological heritage of the city.
The Bicycle Day will be celebrated on Sunday, October 8, in which there will be an urban tour of 6 kilometers from the Town Hall Square at 11:00 p.m.
At the same starting point a bicycle workshop will be set up.
To conclude the events organized on the occasion of this European week, a lecture-talk on city and sustainable mobility will be held on Thursday 19 October at the Isaac Peral Room at 17:00 hours.
An act that was scheduled this week, but has been postponed to not coincide with the Festivals of Carthaginians and Romans and thus encourage attendance.
