The Local Police of Cartagena will carry out in collaboration with the General Direction of Traffic from the 11 to the 17 September a Campaign of surveillance and control of the safety belts and child retention systems.
The controls will be carried out in different parts of the city, preferably neighborhoods and councils.
With this preventive campaign that coincides with the beginning of the school year, it seeks to raise awareness among all drivers and companions that the seat belt is a basic and fundamental element of road safety and halves the risk of death in the event of an accident.
Not wearing a seat belt is, along with speed and driving under the influence of alcohol, one of the main risk factors on the road.
The use of approved child restraint systems (SRI) and safety belt has proven to be the simplest, most cost-effective and efficient road safety system on all types of roads and routes.
The occupants of a vehicle move at the same speed as that vehicle and in case of braking, the vehicle stops, but the occupants move.
A collision at 50 km / h is equivalent to falling from a second floor.
Failure to use the seat belt in the rear seats is a major risk.
On a frontal impact, the likelihood that an occupant of the back seats will mortally hit another passenger in the front seats can be up to 8 times greater.
