Cartagena will host next Saturday September 9 the participants of the challenge '12 .000.000 of pedaladas' in favor of the refugees organized by the Cepaim Foundation and that has the collaboration of the City of Cartagena through the Department of Social Services.
An event that travels more than 2,000 kilometers by bicycle stopping in 40 cities from Vila Real de Sant Antonio in Portugal to Colliure in France and ending its ninth stage in Cartagena, where this morning have presented the activities that will be carried out on the occasion of this an event attended by Councilwoman Carmen Martín, Cepaim director Juan Antonio Segura, Cepaim coordinator in Cartagena, Pere González, and Social Services coordinator Damián Pérez.
The challenge invites the people of each of the cities by which it happens to participate in a cyclotourist route by the city acquiring a support rider whose funds will be destined to help the refugee people, each symbolic pedaling is equivalent to 1 cent each participant choose the number of pedals you want to donate.
It also seeks to become a playful and aware of the situation of the fact that in the world there are 12 million refugee children who are in a situation of even greater vulnerability than adults.
It is a continuous awareness-raising action that wants to send a positive message towards the reception of refugees by eliminating stereotypes, generalizations and fears towards the other.
The stage of September 9 will start in Totana and is expected to arrive in Cartagena at 11:00 p.m.
The acquisition and collection of supportive numbers for those who want to participate in Cartagena can be done directly on the esplanade of the Mandarache Shopping Center, starting point of the route, starting at 9:00 am, or through this link.
At that starting point, 3 static bikes will be enabled for those who want to participate but do not have time to make the route.
From there it will leave at 11 in the morning along with the 3 cyclists of the Cepaim Foundation involved in the challenge and will make an urban tour to the Plaza de los Heroes de Cavite.
At the end of the route there will be a series of activities and workshops, as well as having a series of itinerant exhibitions: a pedagogue on 'The refuge' that explains the life of a refugee and the initiatives that can be taken to help them;
another artistic one, 'Refugiarte', that collects works that are realized by local artists in each one of the stops of the challenge that are accumulating and taking from one point to another.
Activities at Cavite's Heroes Square will begin at 10:30 p.m., and include pin design and development, paperweight construction, bookmark design, ethnic beverage tasting, and a henna tattoo workshop.
In addition a local artist will make a graffiti to include in the traveling exhibition and will lead a graffiti workshop which will result in a second work.
An enormous mosaic of fabric will also be built in which anyone who wishes to collaborate with his vision of diversity and interculturality can collaborate.
The council has thanked the Cepaim Foundation for the organization of these initiatives and has expressed the firm commitment of the municipal government with refugees, for which already in September 2015 joined the intermunicipal network for the reception of refugees.
An initiative that created the Network for Integration and Reception of Refugees, a coordination table in which social organizations participate together with the City Council.
It has also emphasized the need for public institutions to always support organizations and entities that are alongside refugees.
A need in which the President of Cepaim has insisted that he has encouraged Cartagena to maintain its committed course.
