Councilor for the area of Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, chaired yesterday a new meeting of the Joint Commission on Health, a meeting held at the Palace Hall and also attended by representatives of the municipalities of La Union and Fuente Alamo;
the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín;
the councilors of the municipal groups of the opposition, Fernando Sáenz de Elorrieta, Ana Rama and Teresa Sánchez, as well as members of the Platform in Defense of Public Health 'Save the Rosell' led by its president, Leandro Sánchez.
During the session, several issues were addressed that focus the interest of the inhabitants of the Cartagena Region in health matters.
In relation to Law 3/2016, of March 21, for the full functioning of the Hospital of Santa Maria del Rosell as a general hospital, the participants agreed on the suitability of undertaking a coordinated action to determine the degree of compliance with the aforementioned norm.
Thus, the Legal Services of the City of Cartagena will study the possible breach of the law, as well as the measures to be adopted.
This same protocol will follow the City Council of La Unión.
In any case, this work will lead to a joint and coordinated action.
Likewise, the members of the municipal groups of the Consistory of Cartagena with representation in the Regional Assembly stated that they will transfer to their colleagues in the Chamber the study of the question.
After the meeting, Councilor for the area of Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, stated that "the Rosell Law, approved in the Regional Assembly, is not being carried out, so the Commission and the municipalities of La Union, Fuente Álamo and Cartagena have decided that the legal services of these consistories study the judicialization of this matter so that the executive, represented by the regional government, respects and complies with the legislative power.
It should be remembered that the municipal plenaries of Cartagena and La Unión approved motions calling for the full operation of the Rosell Hospital.
AREAS OF HEALTH II and VIII
The meeting continued with the intention expressed by Calderón to intercede with the Minister of Health in order to receive the Joint Commission to convey the existing discomfort in the areas of Health II and VIII due to the continuous delays in primary care and waiting lists for interventions.
The balance made after the summer verifies the deficiencies that the inhabitants of the Region of Cartagena are forced to suffer: notable delays in primary care;
closed clinics;
care of up to seventy-five patients by a single practitioner, or two weeks waiting to be treated, in certain cases.
In short, a photograph that shows an obvious mismanagement and planning that suffer neighbors, impairing the provision of a universal right.
Faced with these facts, the mayor said that the Joint Commission understands that "the impairment of areas II and VIII is latent and is lost in time;
we suffer the worst deadlines for waiting lists and surgical interventions. "

The Joint Health Commission is composed of representatives of the municipal groups of the City of Cartagena, representatives of other councils of the Comarca, as well as the Platform in Defense of Public Health.
