The Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) has opened the new enrollment period at its University of the Elderly on Tuesday.
The massive attendance of interested people since the early hours of the morning has made 53 of the 55 seats covered in just two hours.
The common motivation among the new students, the desire to acquire new knowledge and to take advantage of the free time.
"We started very young to work, with 14 years, because we had to help our parents, although now we have to help our children. We are the mattress generation", describes María José Garre Martínez.
"Being unemployed after a lifetime of work, with the University of Elders, I try to quench my anxiety to learn and have organized life," explains this neighbor of Barrio Peral.
"And it would be great to study English and computer science to help me find employment," he concludes.
The enrollment for those who are already taking the three courses of the University of Mayors will be held next week.
The cost is 125 euros, which can be paid in two installments.
Anyone over 50 years old can register, and must provide two photographs and photocopy of ID.
Enrollment is done in the Student and University Extension Unit, in the East Wing of the UPCT Rectorate.
The University of Majors consists of three academic courses and a Senior Course in Specialization and Research.
It is taught in the Faculty of Sciences of the Company in the afternoon (from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.), in the same subjects, such as biology, history, literature, technology, computer science, drawing, sociology, astronomy, languages, psychology ... etc.
The pass is obtained by attending at least 70% of the classes.
