The coffin carried a shroud with the coat of arms of Cartagena in recognition of the famous English teacher and Adoptive Son of the City.
Hundreds of people packed the chapel of the Tanatorio Estavesa during the burial of the well-known English teacher and Adoptive Son of Cartagena, Juan Carrión, who was also attended by the mayor of the city, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Education and Culture, David Martínez , as well as several regional councilors and numerous alumni, who spontaneously sang songs of the Beatles during the funeral.
The coffin carried during the wake and funeral a shroud with the shield of Cartagena, offered by the mayor in recognition of the famous English teacher who inspired Fernando Trueba's film 'Live is easy with eyes closed', winner of several Goya awards.
And in 1966 Carrión moved to Almeria, where The Beatles were recording, to meet John Lennon and convince him to include in their albums the lyrics of their songs, in order to facilitate their students the learning the English language.
Born in Madrid, Juan Carrión always professed his love for Cartagena, a city where he lived for more than 60 years and was named Adoptive Son in December of 2015. After the burial, his remains were transferred to the cemetery of Nuestra Señora de the Remedios, where they will rest as it was the will of the famous teacher.
