Cartagena will celebrate the European Day without cars with two days of free bus service for all users of public transport on the 21st and 22nd of September.
This was announced on Monday, August 28, the coordinator of the Sustainable Development area, Jesús Giménez Gallo, who has detailed the measures and initiatives that will be launched in the port city on the occasion of Mobility Month, which is leaving To be held from 15 September to 15 October this year.
Giménez Gallo has detailed the proposals that have been discussed at the meeting of the Bureau of the Strategic Mobility Plan, chaired on Monday by the first deputy mayor and councilor of the Sustainable Development area, José López.
Thus, in relation to the European Day without cars, the Coordinator of Sustainable Development has recalled that it is celebrated on Friday, September 22, but, as it is a holiday in Cartagena on the occasion of the Carthaginians and Romans, Free bus service so that on Thursday 21 and Friday 22, all users will enjoy free access to different municipal bus lines through the ALSA concessionaire.
In addition, has pointed out, during this month will be implemented different measures such as a bicycle service between the administrative buildings of the City and chargers for electric vehicles.
Another initiative that will be integrated within the Mobility Month will be the implementation of cameras to restrict access to the center only to electric and utility vehicles, as well as bicycles and motorcycles, which is a system similar to that already set Launched in the city of Granada with the aim of encouraging the use of electric vehicles and bicycles and thus reduce pollution in the city center.
In addition, a cycling march will be held in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer and a mobility fair in which social partners, associations and numerous companies will participate.
It seeks, in the words of the coordinator of the table, to demonstrate that "Cartagena is betting on mobility and sustainability."
On the other hand, on the proposal of the participants in the table, will be studied the implementation of a series of cycle routes around the heritage of Cartagena, in which participants could visit the sites of the city, with a periodicity monthly.
This is the fourth time that this table, formed by different councils of the City of Cartagena, such as Sustainable Development, Public Road, Quality of Life or Sports, and which also includes representatives of groups and entities such as Authority Port, the association MoviliCT, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the Chamber of Commerce, social agents and the urban transport company ALSA.
