The Local Police of Cartagena made between August 11 and 15 a Campaign of Monitoring and Control of Alcoholemia in which 325 tests were conducted on drivers.
Control points were set up throughout the municipality of Cartagena, mainly in the beach areas, where only one complaint was processed.
Throughout the campaign, carried out in coordination with the General Direction of Traffic, 65 controls were done per day.
The only sanctioned driver was because of his refusal to submit to control, a conduct typified by the Penal Code, for which section 383 provides "imprisonment from six months to one year and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and Mopeds for more than one and up to four years ".
These breathalyser controls have been aimed at making drivers aware that driving under the effects of alcohol increases braking distance and decreases the reaction time, reducing physical and mental capacities, causing numerous traffic accidents.
In addition, from the Local Police and the General Directorate of Traffic, it is recalled that driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances is punishable by imprisonment for three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or work in Benefit of the community from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a time greater than one and up to four years.
