The Museum of the Roman Theater, in collaboration with Cartagena, Puerto de Culturas, prepares a new nocturnal visit to the most emblematic work promoted by Augustus in the old Carthago Nova, the Roman Theater, which will take place this Saturday, August 26.
The trip will allow to live in first person, in a relaxed and exclusive atmosphere, a tour that begins in the Museum of the Roman Theater with a guide, with a small group of people who will discover the keys of the Roman civilization, to finish In the archaeological jewel of the Roman Theater under the light of the moon.
The museum tour will show the remarkable difference between the Port and the Theater, from the sea to the high altitudes.
Along the route you will arrive to Room 1, which houses the collection of monumental architecture.
It provides the necessary keys to understand the architecture of the theater building through the exhibition of original pieces as well as a model and other didactic elements.
And it is that the entity of its architectural elements, which include bases, cornices and especially capitals, make the theater of Cartagena a magnificent example of the public and monumental architecture of the time of Augustus, whose image presides over the room as the benefactor of the city.
In Room 2 the visitor will come to the knowledge of the functions of the Theater in Antiquity since, in addition to its playful function, the theater building is the ideal setting for the political and religious propaganda of Augustus himself, personified in the Roman Theater of Cartagena by the two young princes, Cayo and Lucio, who also had to participate in the financing of the same and probably in the election of its ornamental program.
As in other Roman cities, the most notable members of the city, such as the Iunius and Postumios, also participated in its financing.
The contemplation of altars and inscriptions allows visitors to understand the keys to patronage and political promotion in ancient times.
