SCRATS distributes more than one ton of fruit to claim the importance of the Tajo-Segura transfer (01/08/2017)

Cartageneros and visitors have had throughout this morning the opportunity to try for free the agricultural products of the Region thanks to a day of protest of the Central Union of Irrigators of the Tajo-Segura Aqueduct (SCRATS).

An action of street marketing under the title 'Savor the water that unites us', which has had the collaboration of the City of Cartagena and the assistance of the mayor Ana Belén Castejón, who wanted to show their support to the farmers of the Region in Their water demand.

The event, which has been held in the Town Hall Square in the emblematic framework of the Consistorial Palace facade, has also approached the Councilor for Sustainable Development, José López, the Councilor for Participation, Decentralization and Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, and The councilor of Transparency, María José Soler.

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in a tent next to which a stop simulating a traditional market has been installed, more than a ton of fruit between grapes, melon galia And melon toad skin, and lilies grown in the Region of Murcia, also fruit of the irrigation that is obtained from the transfer.

In addition they have delivered some small publications in size that explain in an amicable and accessible way the circle of water and fans of rigid cardboard, also with information about it.

Inside the tent has been installed a photocall so that those who wish to take photos with props ready for the occasion, and participate, through the publication of these images in social networks, in the raffle of agricultural products.

This type of event is carried out by the organizing union every summer, when more citizens of the rest of Spain have been visiting the region for several years, recalled the president of SCRATS, Lucas Jiménez.

The objective is to call attention to the importance of the Tajo-Segura aqueduct for the agricultural production system of the provinces to which it affects, "which is unique in Spain."

"The face that we usually express the farmers is a face of anger, but we decided to show a different face, a kind face, and there is no friendlier face for a farmer than the one who offers his fruit, the fruit that grows thanks to the arrival of Water from the Tajo-Segura aqueduct, "explained Jiménez.

The mayor said she was proud to have this initiative in the city, in a day to reclaim the importance of water in the Region and to launch a message of unity, indicating that she "will always be with the irrigators and with the just demands" of the People from Cartagena.

He also wanted to emphasize how important it is for local and regional politicians to work together to tackle this problem.

"We need to be able to convince anyone who needs it and I promise to continue advancing and understand that we have to be generous and in solidarity with a problem that has the Region of Murcia and within the Region of Murcia has Cartagena," said Castejón.

This initiative began in Santiago de la Rivera on July 28, and Cartagena is the third of the 10 cities in which it will land until August 22, when it ends in Vera.

It seeks to cover the 3 provinces benefiting from the Tajo-Segura transfer: Alicante, Almería and Murcia.
