The UPCT beats this course its thesis record defended (01/08/2017)

With more than seventy new doctors, the Polytechnic of Cartagena has doubled this year the usual average of completed investigations

A thesis per day, this was the rate of defense of doctoral research in July at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

Only last month, twenty theses were defended, reaching sixty as far as course.

Counting the eleven that will at least be presented in September, the Polytechnic will beat the record of 63 thesis established last year and practically double the average of 36 per academic year.

The extinction of old doctoral programs has contributed, along with the progressive increase of the research activity in the UPCT, to the attainment of such a high number of new doctors, explains the director of the International Doctoral School of the UPCT, Pablo Fernández.

The PhD program in Advanced Techniques in Agricultural and Food Research and Development (TAIDA) continues to be the flagship, by volume of thesis presented, of the Polytechnic, which has also seen a significant increase in the number of new PhDs in Administration and Management Business.

"It should be noted that all programs have substantially increased the number of theses defended," says Fernandez.

The recruitment of foreign doctoral students is another achievement of the Polytechnic, which this month has witnessed the defense of theses of two Peruvian doctoral students and a Nicaraguan.

From the quality of the theses of the UPCT, the recent award given to José Gabriel Martínez Gil, whose thesis was awarded as the best of the year by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, is a good example.

The research activity of the Polytechnic of Cartagena (UPCT) has also been recognized and strengthened with the recent granting of grants for University Teacher Training (FPU) to six of its doctoral students.

The selection of six researchers from the UPCT, among the ten who requested it, is a success rate that is five times the state average, since the call for 850 FPU grants have been presented this year more than 6,500 candidates.
