CTSSP believes that it is only fair to recognize the work of the Spaniards who risked their lives in the face of the Nazis during the Second World War, towards a freer world.
The majority came from the republican army that crossed the Pyrenees were interned in concentration camps of the South of France.
In spite of this, many served in the Legion of Foreigners, in shock squads of the French army or in Companies of Foreign Workers.
A good number ended up in the concentration camps of Mauthausen and Gusen.
One proof of the importance of the Spaniards in the extermination camps is the entrance of the United States Army at Mauthausen, on May 5, 1945, republican flags replaced the Nazis, at the gate of the field, covered by a large banner , One could read this message: "The antifascist Spaniards greet the liberating forces."
CTSSP believes that it is a matter of justice to honor the Carthaginians who were part of this group of forgotten compatriots.

Two years ago, the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen extermination camp was commemorated.
Congress unanimously approved an initiative to honor the victims.
On the occasion of this anniversary, the French state also wanted to remember its suffering and heroism in the struggle for freedom and its status as victims of totalitarianism.
There are numerous monoliths and acts celebrated in France to recognize the help and courage of the Spaniards.
As stated by Francisco Martinez, CTSSP councilman:
"We believe that it is fair and reasonable for the Municipal Corporation to publicly acknowledge and pay homage to people who, being native to the municipality, endured the suffering of all kinds of calamities, deprivations, torture and death during World War II. On June 29, the City Council of Murcia unanimously approved a joint motion for a joint motion by the spokespersons. For all of this, we are going to ask at the plenary of July 25th for the institutional recognition of the Cartagena City Council for deportees in Extermination camps between 1940 and 1945. Also, a monolith should be placed in memory of the victims in a street or public square, to which a plaque will be attached explaining the motive of the same and another one in which the names of The 32 died, as well as the inauguration of the monolith celebrating a public event, on April 14, 2018, to which expressly invite the relatives of the victims
As well as citizenship in general ".
