The inauguration of the course "Challenges of the Spanish Political System", which will take place from 18 to 21 July, will be held in the Hall of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT). Activities of the International University of the Sea, a formative action that has the sponsorship of the City of Cartagena.
The inauguration ceremony, which was attended by the second deputy mayor, Francisco Calderón, also intervened the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Murcia, David Morillas;
The Vice-rector of Training and Innovation of the UM, Pedro Miralles;
The Constitutional Law professor of the UM, Francisco García Costa, and the professor of Political Science of the UM, Antonio Garrido.
The course aims to analyze the challenges of the current Spanish political system, namely, the regeneration of democratic institutions, reform of the Constitution, reform of the electoral system, reform of the territorial organization of the State or the proper functioning of The powers of the State (Corona, Cortes Generales, Judicial Power, Constitutional Court).
In the same way, we will study various issues of regional policy interest, such as the territorial backbone of the Autonomous Community, addressing various formulas for optimizing resources and public management, such as bi-provinciality and comarcalization.
During the intervention, Pedro Miralles has recognized the City Council of Cartagena in general and the work of the previous mayor, José López, in particular, the management to promote "an involvement never seen before (in the Consistory of Cartagena)."
Miralles has weighed the budgetary allocation offered by the local administration through the agreement signed with the University of Murcia.
Finally, he underlined the medium-term objectives, "to advance the implementation of the permanent headquarters of the International University of the Sea in Cartagena for courses throughout the year."
For his part, Francisco Calderón thanked the University of Murcia for choosing Cartagena as the headquarters of the University of the Sea, which is "an honor."
The mayor has considered these times as "a new era", outlining "the desire to collaborate and make the Region bigger".
Calderón concluded by recalling the great work done by Professor García Acosta in relation to the benefits of an effective comarcalización of the municipalities that are integrated in the Field of Cartagena.
