Next week is the Summer School for Homeless and Transients, organized by the Department of Social Services directed to 20 people in a situation of social exclusion.
This was presented by the mayor of Social Services, Carmen Martín, who has detailed the different activities that will be carried out by the attendees, including workshops, tourist visits and swimming in the pool.
The Summer School, which celebrates its second edition in 2017, will start this Monday, July 17, and will run throughout the week until Friday 21. Thus, every day will start at 8.45 with a healthy breakfast.
In addition, on Monday, after 9.30 hours, the presentation of the School will take place, which will be attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Social Services, and a percussion workshop, after which there will be A corporal expression workshop, which will end at 12.00.
On Tuesday 18, after breakfast, two craft workshops have been scheduled, one from 9.30 to 11.00 and another from 11.00 to 12.00.
On Wednesday, participants will visit the 'modernist Cartagena' and stroll through the sports facilities of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).
To finish the activities of this day, you will enjoy a swim in the pool of the UPCT, from 12.30 to 14.00 hours.
On Thursday 20 there will be a workshop of first aid and home accidents and, in addition, a workshop of healthy food with gastronomic tasting.
On Friday, to finish the Summer School, they will realize the cultural visit in the tourist boat of Cartagena Port of Cultures.
At 12.00 hours, this second edition will be closed.
"The purpose of this school is that homeless people are in the same space and in this way establish links and normalized relationships between them, while learning hygiene habits, food and schedules," said the Councilor for Services Social.
He also thanked the organizations and associations that work in the accompaniment of the homeless and in their own inclusion from different care programs, such as the La Huertecica Encounter and Reception Center (CEA), Accem, Caritas Cartagena, Hospitality of Santa Teresa, the Transpersonal and Homeless Program of the Department of Social Services, Apices, Agency for Local Development and Employment (ADLE), Cartagena Port of Cultures and UPCT.
Carmen Martin recalled other activities that have taken place during the course that ends, such as the Christmas campaign or the Street Party.
"They are not isolated activities but follow a continuous programming," he said, adding that "we can not work alone" and encouraged "a more open, inclusive and inclusive Cartagena".
