About 80 women from all over Spain and from all levels will participate this weekend, from 14 to 16 July, in the 'Paddle and Women' Championship, organized by the City of Cartagena in collaboration with the General Directorate of Sports Autonomous Community and the Federation of Pádel of the Region of Murcia.
This was presented today Thursday, July 13, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, during a press conference in which she was accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Ricardo Segado;
The General Director of Sports of the Region, Alonso Gómez;
And the president of the regional Pádel Federation, MÂŞ Ángeles Aguirre.
The mayor has shown her personal support and commitment and the rest of the local Government team for the sport of women.
She has been convinced that "we have to continue betting and increasing the bet for women's sport" and recalled that "we have great women who compete in many different disciplines" but "their visibility is much less than that of their male counterparts ".
Thus, he concluded by stating that, from July 14 to 16, "something very big in women's sports is going to happen" in Cartagena.
The president of the Federation of Padel of the Region of Murcia has highlighted the importance of this event in which will be present the current No. 1 World Padel Tour (WPT) couple, sisters Maria Pilar and María José Sánchez Alayeto, and The No. 3 WPT pair, made up of Cartagena's Patricia Llaguno Zielinski and Elisabeth Amatriaín Armas.
The championship presents the novelty of using three venues, all of them covered, so that the activities will be divided between Padel Center Cartago, Micoco Club de Pádel La Palma and Padel Club Cartagena.
The tournament will be played by teams and not by categories.
There will be four teams, each led by one of the four professional players involved, and will be made up of women of different categories.
In addition, the four players will offer a clinic for the participants and, on Saturday, the coach Neki Berwing will offer a talk on women and paddle and, on Sunday, there will be an exhibition party of the two professional couples.
For its part, the director general of sports in the Region of Murcia has shown his willingness to work from the Autonomous Community with the City of Cartagena to promote women's sport in the municipality.
"From the general direction we do not discriminate," he said.
He also assured that the competition this weekend will have "real artists of the paddle", with Patty Llaguno to the front and as the main representative of the paddock paddle.
In addition, Ricardo Segado has taken the opportunity to wish luck to the president of the Federation of Padel of the Region and has ensured that the sporting event that begins this Friday will be "something unpublished and very positive, not only for the 80 athletes but Also for the city of Cartagena itself.
The mayor of Sports has thanked the collaboration of the sponsors of the event, such as SPAR, Sabadell bank, Sioux, NH Hotels, Coca Cola, Cardialus Sport, Polbam and Exclusive Zapata, in addition to the City of Cartagena through the council that Ricardo Segado Directs and Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.
Finally, she wanted to highlight the figure of Patricia Llaguno, who was awarded the Cartagena Sports Prizes 2009 as the best female athlete and has highlighted that she has "won everything" in all the categories in which she has competed.
He has been proud of the celebration of this sporting event in Cartagena and has encouraged the board of the Regional Federation of Padel to hold more events of this type in the port city.
