With the arrival of summer, the Cross of Cabo de Palos, organized by the Athletic Club La Manga in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Tourism of the City of Cartagena and San Javier City Council and the Athletics Federation of the Region Of Murcia, and which has the sponsorship of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), adds a new edition.
This year will be held the novena and will be held on 29 July from 18:30 hours.
The Councilor for Sports of the City of Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, the head of the UPCT University Extension Unit, Miguel Diaz Delgado, the president of the La Manga Athletics Club, Martín Fuentes, and the Sports Coordinator of the City Council of San Javier, Antonio Perez, have appeared this Wednesday before the media to explain all the details of this athletic event.
The objective of this race, which will have its start and finish in the Paseo del Puerto de Cabo de Palos, between the church and the shed of the Local Police, is to unite sports, tourism and solidarity.
For this reason, as is tradition, the benefits will be earmarked this year for Asido, the nursing home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, the delegation in Cartagena of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Afemar San Javier and Unicef.
Likewise, the test passes through an environment without equal;
Are 6'5 kilometers that cross such emblematic landscapes as Levante Beach, lighthouse, cliffs or La Manga del Mar Menor and which will have two points of supply (one at kilometer 4.5 and the other at the end of the Race) and with showers in the goal area.
It should be noted that in case of extreme temperatures the test schedule and its route can be modified in order to preserve the health of the athletes, being able to delay the exit until the heat is less suffocating, which would imply avoiding the area of ​​the cliffs By the lack of light.
More than 50 people will ensure the safety of the participants and another 50, approximately, will cover the rest of the needs of the test.
On the other hand, as indicated by the mayor of Sports, the City Council already has the provision of medical services and Civil Protection that will attend the test and the Local Police of Cartagena, as well as all the infrastructure necessary for the correct development of the test .
The organization plans to exceed 2,000 enrolled in total with the participation of 1,300 adult runners, 500 benjamines and 300 fry and children.
As yet 17 days have already been formalized about 1,000 inscriptions, which is expected to reach that figure.
The deadline to register is open until Tuesday, July 25 or until these quotas are met.
Entries can be made through the website www.crossdecabopalos.es and the fee will be 12 euros for adults and 5 euros for the categories Children, Alevín and Benjamín.
Ricardo Segado has defined this race as "a classic sport event, icon event of the tourist image of La Manga, Cabo de Palos and therefore of Cartagena, which helps to promote the tourist image" of the municipality "through sport and Of physical activity "and, in short," favors the promotion of sports and tourism in the coastal area of ​​Cartagena. "
Likewise, the Councilor for Sports has wanted to "highlight the quality in the organization of this test," which considers that it has "one of the most beautiful routes" of all the tests that are disputed in the municipality.
Also the president of the La Manga Athletics Club, Martin Fuentes, has agreed to highlight the marked "charitable and tourist character" of the test that for them "is a key day" in the future of the club.
"For us it is pleasant to collaborate in a solidarity event such as this one, in which both institutions and commercial entities and especially the La Manga Athletics Club, with whom we are united by close collaboration throughout the year, Especially in this event, "said the coordinator of Sports of the City of San Javier, given that this race also has the collaboration of companies from this municipality and some of the beneficiary associations are from there or work in this locality.
The test of the category Benjamin will give the starting signal of the day at 18:30 hours, then the fry and children will do at 19:00 hours;
At 19:15 hours will start the Junior and Promises and the absolute category will leave at 20:00 hours.
The collection of riders and the runner's bag, which will include a technical shirt and multiple gifts from the sponsoring brands, will be held at the Spar El Paso Shopping Center on Friday, July 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 17 : 00 to 20:30 hours and Saturday 29 from 10:00 to 14:00 hours or also in the same area of ​​exit on the day of the test between 17:00 and 18:00 hours in the case of the tests Of children and from 17:00 to 19:00 hours in the case of the absolute category.
