The traditional Pilgrimage of San Ginés de la Jara will be celebrated this year on August 26, with an itinerary equal to the previous year and starting from the basilica of the Charity, as they announced Monday in the presentation of the event and the Poster, the Councilor for Transparency, María José Soler, Brother Major of the Brotherhood of Romeros de San Ginés de la Jara, Andrés García, accompanied by the author of the image that illustrates this year's poster, Luis Pérez Contreras, and the Parish priest of San Ginés, Lázaro Gomariz.
A feast that, as pointed out by María José Soler, this year has added value, since in February began the file to declare the Romería as a Property of Cultural Interest not Material, given that it is one of the oldest in Spain, There are testimonies of her before the tenth century.
The novelties of this edition of the Romería were explained by Brother Major, Andrés García, highlighting the celebration of a Children's Pilgrimage that will cross several streets of the city, to initiate the smallest in Cartagena traditions.
The date is yet to be determined, although it is planned to be a Saturday, to facilitate the participation of children and also relatives.
The other novelty is that on July 22, San Ginés will accompany Santa Ana in Romería, during the festivities of this town.
As for the pilgrimage itself, the tour will be as last year, reaching the vicinity of Mount Miral since, at the moment, it is still not possible to access the Monastery of San Ginés, currently under construction.
And as for the image of the poster, a San Ginés surrounded by the light of our own land and making clear its role as the pattern of Cartagena and its countryside, has been made in spatula, a technique that is mixing images and in which No brush is used, as explained by its author, Pérez Contreras.
