The transitional urbanization rule will be debated at the next municipal plenary (10/07/2017)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has announced that she will take to the next municipal plenary the approval of the transitional urbanization rule of article 145.4 of the Land Law of the Region, which this morning was presented at the meeting of the technical commission of the General Municipal Plan of Urban Planning (PGMOU) held in the Palace of Aguirre.

After its approval, it will be submitted to public information so that the citizens present the allegations that they consider opportune.

Final approval is scheduled to take place in the autumn.

This document will allow to respond to a series of projects pending approval for implementation in urban land, which amounts to around 35 million euros.

"As an example of projects that will benefit from the approval of this transitory rule, it should be noted that the vegetable oils factory of the Escombreras Valley, among others," said Ana Belén Castejón.

The mayor has explained that this transitional rule only affects urban land and, at no time includes protected soils, nor the Mar Menor environment nor new urban developments.

"It is an instrument that will allow us to unblock paralyzed projects while we continue working on the drafting of the new General Urban Planning Plan, which is our priority," Castejón said.

The meeting that was held this morning included the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the first deputy mayor and councilor of the Sustainable Development area, José López, the secretary general of the Ministry of Presidency and Promotion of the Community Autonomous Region of Murcia, Yolanda Muñoz, as well as other representatives of the local and regional administration.

The transitional rule, which includes urban ordinate soil, has been agreed between the City and the Autonomous Community.

It should be remembered that the annulment by the Higher Court of Justice of the Region of the revision of the General Municipal Urban Development Plan (PGMOU) of 2012 obliges the City Council to comply with the 1987 rule.

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, stressed the need to have a legal framework that allows those important projects for the municipality "to see the light and not be harmed by the lack of a legislative framework that can regulate them," something that Considers that "for the development of a municipality like Cartagena is vital" since, in turn, the port city "is vital in the economic development of this Region."

"We would only continue to advance in a technical matter that is very important for the City of Cartagena, which would be that these transitional rules could be applicable to the Valley of Escombreras," said the first mayor.

Also regarding the Valley of Escombreras has been pronounced the responsible of Sustainable Development, Jose López, who hopes that "this transitory norm returns to consider it like urban industrial land so that they continue installing companies".

López has stated that the transitional rules "must allow to continue advanced".

The mayor thanked the work of the municipal technicians and wished that "not stop the development nor the creation of employment and wealth".

Ana Belén Castejón has also highlighted the "will", "joint work" and "predisposition" between the technicians of both administrations.
