With the aim of contributing to the recovery and maintenance of the archaeological heritage of Cartagena, from 17 to 29 July, the Cartagena Archaeological Work Camp will be developed, a program of the General Directorate of Youth of the Region of Murcia, which takes place in Collaboration with the Youth Organizations of the Autonomous Communities of Spain and International Associations that promote volunteering.
The presentation on Monday of this initiative was attended by Youth Councilor Ricardo Segado, the general director of Youth of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Javier Sánchez, and the director general of Historical Heritage and Archeology of the City of Cartagena, Mª Carmen Berrocal.
The mayor, Ricardo Segado, emphasized a fundamental characteristic of these fields of work, and is that they are a form of voluntary service, which consists in the disinterested accomplishment of a work that reverts in the community in which it develops.
They offer the possibility to know places and forms of culture, to contact other young people with the same concerns of solidarity, tolerance and friendship, characteristic values ​​of volunteers.
Aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 30, this program offers 5 Fields of Work for the 2nd half of July, in different Municipalities of our Autonomous Community and has opened to the participation of Youth of our Region.
From outside, the arrival of more than 150 young people is expected.
The theme of the Fields of Work is very varied: Archeology, Research and Rehabilitation of Historical Heritage, Ethnography, Environment, Social Intervention ...
In the case of developing in the city, Cartagena Archaeological, will participate a total of 20 young people belonging to different Autonomous Communities as: Andalusia, Castilla La Mancha, Valencia, Basque Country, Aragon, La Rioja, Castilla y León, Cantabria And Murcia.
Mª Carmen Berrocal explained in what will be the performances of these young volunteers.
On the one hand, they will attend two training workshops at the Enrique Escudero de Castro Archaeological Museum, one on gastronomy and another on life in an ancient Roman city.
In addition, they will carry out cleaning and maintenance interventions in two archaeological sites, in the Roman Amphitheater and in the Castillico beach deposit, next to Villas Caravanning, where besides, and with the collaboration of the Department of Tourism, we will place signage with information on the same.
For his part, the director general of Youth recalled the ability of young people to engage as volunteers, not only those who come from outside, but also the Cartagena people who go to other cities to participate in this type of activity, and their willingness to participate In these initiatives, which allows them to collaborate with their work in the mornings, and enjoy leisure and summer knowing the city and its tourist offer the rest of the day.
