During her speech, the acting mayor recalled the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, which included equality in the dignity and rights of all human beings, as well as the right of anyone to seek asylum in another country in case of persecution .
In this sense, has shown the commitment of the City of Cartagena since "anyone has the right to security, freedom, work and an adequate standard of living that can ensure the welfare, food, medical care and education ".
Thus, it has addressed the associations that work with the refugees, whom it has assured, "you are not alone".
As Castejón has recalled, so far this year have died more than 1,500 people trying to reach Europe.
On the other hand, he lamented, "millions of people are in third countries like Lebanon, Jordan or Turkey in which they try to survive in subhuman conditions", while the authorities "not only ignore this humanitarian emergency but also tighten the control of Our borders ".
The Social Services mayor recalled that Cartagena has been part of the Intermunicipal Network for Refugee Assistance since September 2015 and since then different collaborations have been established with the entities and associations designated for the reception of refugees .
In this way, Carmen Martín has highlighted the recent participation of political groups and associations in various fields such as health, training, education, employment, social benefits and The regulation of its administrative situation, so that "all the refugees who are in our city can lead a standardized life".
Finally, the councilor in charge of Quality of Life has been in agreement with Carmen Martín and has ratified the support of the City Council to all the associations and entities that work "for the most disadvantaged people" and has expressed its predisposition to maintain their subsidies.
