Researchers from the IRSTEA, the National Research Institute for Science and Technology for the Environment and Agriculture in the French town of Montpellier, conducted this week surveys of citizens of Cartagena, La Unión, El Llano del Beal and Portman to know their perception Of environmental risk.
This work is part of the European project SoilTakeCare in which UPCT participates, which takes place in industrial areas with contaminated soils and integrates universities and research centers in three countries.
The research project 'SoilTakeCare' is part of the community program SUDOE, on environmental assessment of areas contaminated by metals and hydrocarbons, has a budget of 2,130,000 euros and a duration of three years.
The researchers carry out topographic and cartographic studies, volumetric characterization of residues and contamination evaluation, using the most innovative techniques in this field used for the first time in the Region of Murcia.
The Cartagena-La Unión mining range, being one of the selected study areas, will benefit from the implementation of the first actions of the project.
The interviews will last three weeks.
Researchers participating in this regional development program in South Eastern Europe will again collect data at these locations in 2018.
This European call promotes environmental assessment and is based on different regulations approved by the European Parliament.
Researchers from the UPCT's Group of Management, Use and Recovery of Soils and Waters (GARSA) are partners in this project involving the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique Délégation Midi-Pyrénées, Université de Limoges, Institut Polytechnique de Bordeaux, Institut National de Recherche in Sciences et technologies pour l'environnement et l'agricultura (France);
Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal);
The University of Oviedo and the CTM Center Tecnològic Foundation (Spain).
In addition, the general subdivision of environmental assessment of the Region of Murcia is associated beneficiary of the project.
