To be able to use water from the wells more efficiently to mitigate the water deficit is one of the objectives of a project being carried out by the Chair of Sustainable Agriculture of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena in collaboration with the companies INSAL - ECOGEST and that Has appeared during a day of the chair.
The technical director of the company INSAL, Sergio Melero, recalled that farmers can not directly irrigate with well water because it contains high salt content that is not appropriate for crops.
In that sense, he explained that the system that has been developed allows to use more efficiently well water, increasing the amount that can be used for irrigation and reducing the rejection generated, which in turn is valued by turning it into a by-product capable of being Used in other industries.
This system is being developed at the Tomás Ferro Polytechnic Farm, where tests will begin this month.
"We hope it will help in the search for solutions by the agricultural sector and the administration, by using water in an efficient and environmentally friendly way," he said, although he said that it was not an 'absolute' solution to The lack of water, but an aid.
