The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, informed today that the training decentralization of the Tourism Qualification Center will allow to train 200 professionals in specialized tourism and hospitality sector in Cartagena.
Of the 65 training actions that the Institute of Tourism will carry out this year in the framework of decentralization, Cartagena will host 15 (almost 25 percent of the total courses) with a total of 186 hours, involving 210 students.
The courses respond to the training needs that have been identified by different agents of the municipality, such as the Association of Entrepreneurs of Hospitality and Tourism Accommodations of Cartagena and its Region (Hostecar), the Agrupación de Hoteles y Alojamientos Turísticos de Cartagena (Agrup-Hotel) Congress Office of Cartagena.
They will address various topics such as customer service, oenology and cocktails, new technologies, creative cuisine or safety and hygiene in kitchens.
The theoretical modules will be taught in the Classrooms of the Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena and Comarca (COEC) and the practical part in the facilities of Hotel Alfonso XIII.
According to the counselor said, "during this month the Plan of Decentralization of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment intensifies its activity in order to face with greater and better qualification and professionalism the summer season."
The port city has already hosted a course of initiation to the wine tasting, of 16 hours of duration, and another of creative tapas, of 12 hours.
In addition, it will offer one of initiation to the bartending (12 hours) and another one of techniques of cut and service of ham (12 hours).

This training will continue at the end of the summer, with courses on cooking and advanced cocktails, banquet waiter, coffee and rice, among others.
The Ministry offers this year 65 specialized decentralized training courses that are taught in 12 municipalities and will reach almost 1,000 professionals.

Training for success
Celdrán stressed that "for the regional government is essential to enhance the specialized tourism training offer, because it is essential for success and attract more tourists and make more spending, generating employment and wealth."
As of May 31, the website of the Tourism Qualification Center had received 226 job offers from different companies in the Region.
According to the monitoring carried out so far, 80 percent of CCT graduates find work.
During the first four months of the year, tourism employment has grown at a rate of 4.7 percent, exceeding the goal set by the Strategic Plan 2015-2019 that put this indicator at 4.4 percent.
The total of the activities of Hospitality and Travel Agencies at the end of April employed 40,463 workers, a figure 5.4 percent higher than the same month of the previous year, which translates into 2,091 more workers in the sector , According to the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
With this affiliation data, sustained growth with positive year-on-year rates has been consolidated, which has already reached four consecutive years.
