August will no longer be synonymous with inactivity in Cartagena.
The Polytechnic, along with the Funcarele Foundation and the UIMP, has been proposed to boost the urban center during the summer with an extensive training and leisure program at an International Summer Campus which in its first edition offers some thirty courses and activities.
"A mixture of popularization, training and leisure to put Cartagena and its University on the map," summarized the rector of the Polytechnic, Alejandro Díaz.
The International Summer Campus (http://campusverano.upct.es/) was presented today by the rector of UPCT, the mayor of Cartagena and the general director of Universities in the Faculty of Business Sciences.
"August was a month lacking cultural and economic activities," said the mayor, praising the initiative, which emulates "cities as dynamic in summer as Santander or Jaca," said Miguel Martinez, academic director of the Campus.
The core of the training offer will be the language courses, among which the most important are Spanish for foreigners, the preparation of official exams in English and Spanish, and for trainers in both languages and legal English.
Regarding leisure, the sea will be the main protagonist of the activities organized by the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena, although there will also be space for cultural workshops such as theater.
"The aim is to make Cartagena a reference for training and leisure in summer, giving life to the historic center and offering useful services for international students, tourists, professionals or families who seek a complement to the knowledge that their children acquire during the course "Explains José Manuel Ferrández, vice-rector of Internationalization at the UPCT.
The Cartagena Polytechnic will open during August its most emblematic center, the Faculty of Sciences of the Company, next to the port, and its residence of Calle Caballero to also offer accommodation to those attending the courses.
In addition to languages, the courses will be able to learn about oratory, internationalization of companies, marketing, trends, 'big data', 'smart cities', 'design thinking', Chinese ink, female personal defense or introduction to underwater archeology. A course led by Carlota Pérez-Reverte.
Leisure activities include baptisms and diving courses and sailing, dragon boat trips, kayaking routes through the coves, snorkeling and a campus of actors.
