The City of Cartagena thanks the Marine Infantry School the Route of the Strengths with its maximum distinction (06/06/2017)

The City Council of Cartagena has delivered on Tuesday, June 6, the Gold Medal of the port city, the maximum distinction that the Consistory can grant to an institution, the Marine Infantry School General Albacete and Fuster (EIMGAF) In recognition of the services provided to Cartagena since its creation in 2004, and especially for the organization of the Route of Strengths.

The event was chaired by the mayor of Cartagena, José López, and the maritime admiral, Manuel de la Puente, along with the current director of the Marine Infantry School, Enrique Montero.

The first mayor has been in charge of imposing the bow tie that represents this decoration to the flag of the school, which was also donated by the Consistory of Cartagena in 2013.

In addition, the event was attended by Vice Admiral Arsenal Chief, Aniceto Rosique;

The commander-in-chief of the Protection Force, Andrés Gacio Panceira;

The Minister of Transparency and spokesperson of the regional government, Noelia Arroyo;

The Second Vice-President of the Regional Assembly, Domingo Segado;

The president of the Port Authority, Antonio Sevilla;

The general secretary of the Socialist Party in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar;

The president of the Citizen Movement, Jesús Giménez Gallo;

As well as a broad representation of the municipal corporation, such as the Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón;

The mayor of Sports and Archaeological Heritage, Ricardo Segado;

The mayor of Hacienda, Isabel García;

The Councilor for Transparency, María José Soler;

The popular spokesman in the Consistory of Cartagena, Francisco Espejo;

The spokesman of the municipal group Citizens, Manuel Padín;

And you ediles Florentina García and Carolina Palazón, of the Popular Party;

And Ana Rama and Alfredo Nieto, of the orange formation, in addition to numerous military authorities.

The ceremony began at 10.00 am on the esplanade of the Plaza de los Heroes in Cavite and Santiago de Cuba, and has participated in a Marine Infantry training.

During the ceremony, López said that this distinction "is more than justified not only by the arguments that supported the initiation proposal, but also by those expressed later through the persons and entities that adhered to the file", while Has recalled that other military entities such as the Spanish Navy, the Marine Infantry Band or the Civil Guard have already received this award.

Thus, the first mayor of Cartagena has publicly stated, it was especially wanted to recognize the creation and organization of the Route of Strengths and with it the work carried out by its commanders, chiefs, officers, non-commissioned officers and troops.

"The Marine Corps of Spain is the oldest in the world," recalled José López, who pointed out that "although the naval base of Cartagena has hosted troops and detachments of this body, since 2004 has the honor to host the main A Spanish institution where teaching is taught through the Marine Infantry School General Albacete and Fuster.

López said that since its launch in 2010, the EIMGAF has made "an impeccable organization," which has led the 2,000 marchers and runners of that first Route "to become authentic apostles of the test."

In this way, according to the first mayor of Cartagena, in successive years "the Route has experienced an unusual fever of participation, in which applications for registration far exceed the quotas set, generating a fame that has transcended our local boundaries and Regional ".

Lastly, the Mayor has maintained that "thanks to the EIMGAF and its Route, these sites and fortifications have also become an attraction for thousands of riders and walkers from other regions of Spain, attracted by the harshness of the challenge, its beauty and organization ".

The City Council unanimously agreed to grant this medal on April 27 of this year.

The file of honors and distinctions, which was instructed by the mayor himself, recorded numerous adherents who made special mention of the impeccable organization of the Route of Strengths, from its first edition in 2010 to date.

For his part, the director of the EIMGAF has admitted that it is "an honor" to receive this recognition as "it is a privilege that further strengthens the bonds of union we have with Cartagena."

Thus, he stressed that Cartagena "is a very welcoming city" and has highlighted the affection that the Carthaginians profess to the Navy and Marine Corps.

"It's a real pleasure to be in a city like this," he acknowledged.

Regarding the Route of Strengths, he pointed out that it was "a risky initiative that has achieved an unprecedented success, is already established and has become a benchmark at the regional level, receiving requests to participate in all corners of Spain and even abroad. "

The EIMGAF has a staff of 200 infantry and personnel of the Navy, and counts throughout the year with about 70 courses that bring together more than 1,000 students in its facilities.

In this way, troop training is offered, which is accessible to young men in civilian clothes and trained for five months as soldiers, and for non-commissioned officers, which allows them to receive annually promotions for non-commissioned officers in their second and third years.
