The Board of Directors of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas has given approval to the archaeological excavations of the lower and upper terraces of the Roman Forum.
"The objective of this new phase is to complete the excavation, by solving the interpretative questions concerning the definition of the lateral porticos, the accesses to the interior of the different buildings, the levels of circulation associated with the construction phases and the definition of The access roads.
This phase of the excavations will allow us to solve a series of questions related to the preservation and musealization of the remains, as well as its connection with the museographic installation that we have projected under the Health Center of Casco Antiguo ", explained the deputy mayor and president of Puerto Of Cultures, Ana Belén Castejón.
Specifically, this phase of the work will complete the excavation of the lower terrace of the Forum, which corresponds to the public square, its portico and the facade of the neighboring buildings.
With these excavations, it will be possible to advance in the outstanding lines of interpretation, as well as in the preparation of the archaeological remains for the works of conservation, restoration and architectural and museographic adaptation.
"This phase also includes the excavation of the skilful area of ​​the upper terrace of the Forum, where there must be the remains of the temple that crowns this space," has qualified the deputy mayor.
The total amount of the project is 200,506.74 euros and the execution period is 7 months.
132,076 VISITORS UNTIL THE HALF OF MAY
On the other hand, the Board of Directors also analyzed the numbers of visitors.
From January to mid-May, 132,076 people have passed through the interpretation centers of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.
