On Saturday, May 27, a guided tour will be held at the Castillo de la Atalaya, organized by the Association of Friends of the Castles and Fortresses of Cartagena (AFORCA) in collaboration with the City of Cartagena, within the activities commemorating the Year Of the Enlightenment.
During the visit, both the members of AFORCA and those citizens who want to join, interested in knowing the history of this fortress built in the times of the Enlightenment and who played a prominent role in various historical episodes of the city, such as the War of the Independence or the Cantonal War.
The departure will be early, to avoid the heat of this time of year.
It is planned at 8 in the morning, from Peroniño Street, next to the Madre Mía restaurant.
The Castillo de la Atalaya is one of the five castles that Cartagena has and one of the four fortifications that were built outside the walled enclosure for its best defense.
You will ascend in a quiet way along the military track so that attendants who come with children can make the journey in a comfortable way.
Once in the Castle, and after observing the magnificent view of the city, a tour will be made through its pits, ramparts and buildings where the various elements of the 18th century fortification will be shown in situ and the missions of this Defense as well as some passages of the history of the city in which the Watchtower was protagonist.
