This morning the Interdisciplinary Municipal Housing Commission has been constituted, which has been chaired by the mayor, José López, and in which the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, and technicians of several Councils participated.
It is a transversal table to work among the different municipal services, among which is Patrimonio, Casco Antiguo, Sustainable Development, Infrastructures and Social Services, to promote the construction of social housing in the municipality of Cartagena.
Through this body will try to know in detail the panorama of social housing in the municipality and work to put a stop to the deficiencies that exist.
Specifically the mayor has indicated that now the municipality has needs "between 380 and 400 social housing," and in that sense has lamented the low contribution of the Autonomous Community that since 2013 does not invest in Cartagena in social housing, a field Which is within its competence.
In that sense the mayor has wanted to remember that the Council of Social Services of the City Council is assuming many powers that are not their own and are being charged to municipal coffers when it should be the Regional Government that assumed them.
Of the approximate number of social housing Cartagena needs, around 200 would be allocated to "families living in precarious conditions in substandard housing, unworthy of residence."
These are families that do not have access to a home even with soft loans and are at risk of exclusion.
The other 180 families are in a difficult economic situation, but could access a home that was awarded through a "social rent or soft loan".
The Commission also intends to cover this need without creating ghettos, so it would be sought not to build neighborhoods of cheap housing to accommodate these families, but as far as possible to locate or relocate those people, "so that Integrate in society in a standardized way ".
After this first meeting it has been decided to urge the Regional Government to promote social housing and seek to reach some agreement by which the City Council facilitates the land and make its services available to the Community in whatever is necessary for the Construction of these homes.
EDUSI EUROPEAN FUNDS
Media questions have prompted the mayor to respond to criticism from opposition municipal groups following a decision by the Ministry of Finance not to finance the EU's Sustainable Development Strategy (EDUSI) for Cartagena.
López has indicated that all the municipal groups supported the project throughout its elaboration and also worked at the same table with different platforms and social movements before it was approved in full.
In addition, the mayor indicated that a meeting held at the FEMP was informed that the ERDF funds were granted in previous years from the Ministry, without the participation of the Autonomous Communities, and that it was the Regional Government that requested this time Voice, "not yet being binding, yes give their opinion" when deciding which municipality to deliver those funds, which have gone to the city of Murcia.
